Dry Skin Care Treatment
Winter
Skincare Tips
Dry itchy skin is can be very
uncomfortable. Cold winds, bright snow, low humidity, heaters and
fireplaces... These all combine to wreak havoc on your skin during the cold
winter months. There are several steps you can take however, which will help
minimize the damage, and help keep your skin both looking and feeling soft,
supple, and young even during the winter.
1. Drink a lot of water -
Drinking plenty of water will help keep your body hydrated, and this allows your
skin to retain the plumpness and softness that makes it look young and healthy.
A minimum of eight glasses each day, eight ounce or more each, is needed to help
keep your skin hydrated during the winter.
2. Try to avoid taking overly
long, hot showers. Hot showers can sap the moisture from your body, and the
longer you stay in them, the more dry your skin will feel afterwards. A good
rule of thumb is to try taking warm showers instead, and limit them to just ten
or fifteen minutes.
3. After your shower, don't
rub yourself dry. Pat yourself off instead, so that some of the moisture is able
to be absorbed by your skin.
4. Use
moisturizing body lotion liberally,
as soon after the shower as you can. By putting plenty of good quality
moisturizer such as
Cashmere on your body while you're still damp from the
shower, it helps lock in that extra moisture and allows your skin to absorb it
better.
5. Try not to clean your face
with regular bar or liquid soaps. These tend to sap the natural oils right out
of your skin quickly, which increases the dry, itchy feelings commonly
experienced during winter. Instead, try a gently moisturizing one like Whistle.
We think it is the best
facial cleanser.
6. Use a high quality
moisturizer on your face which includes
sunscreen: SPF 25 or better. The glaring brightness you see when you look at
snow is bright enough to cause your face to burn. Combined with the really cold
harsh wind in winter time, these two elements can seriously damage your facial
skin in the winter time... making it very dry, cracked, red, and blotchy.
We think Daylight is the best facial
moisturizer.
7. Exfoliate your face
gently. Exfoliating your face too often with harsh products can contribute to
the dryness, flaking, cracking and peeling which is so prominent in winter.
By using a gentle exfoliator, you'll remove the dead dry skin and allow your
moisturizer to start taking care of the fresh new skin immediately.
8. Keep a travel sized
moisturizer or rehydrating oil with you at all times. These are particularly
useful for hydrating your lips when the cold winter winds are blowing, and
they're often excellent for application on hands, elbows, or other places that
get chapped and dry quickly from the cold.
The most useful kind to
always keep on hand come in a small pocket-size tube with an easy roll on
applicator. The size makes it easy to carry with you anywhere, and the roll on
ball makes it easy to keep your lips from getting chapped - always a major
problem during the winter months - and it also makes application on elbows,
hands or other chapped areas quick and simple too.
