Choosing the Best Cleanser for Your Face
When it comes to choosing a facial cleanser for your face, things can get a bit complicated and confusing. Too often, the skin care cleanser we choose for our face ends up creating more of the problems we're trying to resolve, or they simply create new problems for us too.
First and foremost: A facial cleanser needs to be gentle. Many of the popular face cleaning products on the market today are loaded with harsh chemicals, alcohol and fragrances that dry out our skin and make it red and irritated.
Which cleanser is the best choice for you does depend somewhat on the type of skin you have though. Some of us have very oily skin, and some have skin that's quite dry and flaky. Others end up with a combination mix of both oily and dry, while a rare few have fairly normal skin.
Using standard bar or liquid detergent style soap is not good for any kind of skin. Many people with oily skin mistakenly think these are the best products to use, because they dry out your face and thus take care of the heavy oil problems. The truth though, is that these types of soaps and cleansers can actually make your oil problems worse.
Our facial skin naturally produces oils to help protect it from the elements, and keep it young, soft, smooth and supple. Often though, the skin is producing much more oil than we personally feel is appropriate, and that oily skin is usually combined with acne problems too, because the oil traps dirt and bacteria in our pores.
When we strip all the natural essential oils from our face though, we actually stimulate the facial skin to simply produce more oil. Because the soaps and cleansers have removed all the oils the skin feels it needs on the face, the body reacts as if it doesn't have enough oil - so it produces even more.
When our facial skin is already too dry, and we use harsh soaps and cleansers on it, that just enhances the overall problem. Our body is not producing enough oil to keep the face from drying out, or it's not getting enough water to keep the face moisturized, and using standard soaps and cleansers just makes it even dryer.
A better way to clean your facial skin without making it dryer or damaging the protective surface layers, is to use non-alcohol based products, and use products which have natural supplements for our faces instead of harsh chemicals.
A gentle facial cleanser such as Whistle for instance, will clean dirt and debris from your face, wash off make up and grease, without using harsh soaps that leave your skin feeling tight and irritated.
Part of what makes this work so well as a gentle cleanser is the natural grapefruit and mint extracts. These are well known within home and herbal remedy circles to be a wonderful, natural, and gentle way to clean your face. These ingredients also give your face added vitamin C, which is essential to helping keep it free from acne, plump and young looking.
Additional vitamins and natural ingredients help your skin fight free radicals, repair damage from pollution and other everyday elements, while also moisturizing, rehydrating, and nourishing your skin so that it retains a more normal healthy balance.
